Returning on Saturday, June 10 is the 9th annual APLNG Curtis Island Trail Run, courtesy of Gladstone Road Runners and major sponsor - Australia Pacific LNG. Also supporting the event is CNW Gladstone, Locations Real Estate, K&S Sheetmetal, LJ Hooker Gladstone, Jones Communications, Curtis Ferry Services, Capricorn Lodge, Bill Robertson Toyota, Gladstone Ports Corporation & Artrageous Designs.

The trail running community is gathering momentum and constantly looking to put on a variety of events in unspoilt areas, and this event is no exception. Gladstone's Best Kept Secret - one of Australia's most picturesque beaches.

After enjoying a leisurely 1 hour harbour cruise enroute to Curtis Island, participants and spectators will arrive at the township of South End before making their way to the race precinct located at Capricorn Lodge on Seaview Esplanade.

After a pre race briefing, runners will set off at 10am and will be taking on either the challenge of a 6K, 14K or 21K* run which will see runners loop around the township of South End before heading north on the inland beach tracks towards the 'Bluff'. Shortly after this, all participants will head towards the ocean and on to the beach with the 6K runners turning right and heading for home along the beach. Participants in the longer distances will continue for 3.5K along the beach until they arrive at the headland known as the 'Bluff' and be able to take a well earned drink at the aid station after having completed 8K of the run. From here runners in the 14K event will turn left and head for home through the flowing single track for 4.5K before once again dropping on to the beach and the 1.5K sprint to the stairs and finish line. 21K* runners will do an out and back section for 8K across the headland with stunning ocean views the entire way. Once back at the checkpoint, 21K* runners will head for home following the same course as the 14K runners.

A post event BBQ lunch and cold drinks will be on offer courtesy of one of the event sponsors, Capricorn Lodge.

Consistent with GRR events, proceeds of the event will be donated back to the local community - this will see the South End Rural Fire Brigade benefit from this event. 

Where is the event being held and the time and date?

The “APLNG Curtis Island Trail Run” is being held from Capricorn Lodge, 29 Seaview Esplanade, South End, Curtis Island on Saturday, June 10. The 6K, 14K & 21K* events will commence at 10:00.

How do I get to Curtis Island?

Curtis Island is accessible by your own private boat, however there are scheduled services provided by one of the event sponsors Curtis Ferry Services.  It is approximately a 1 hour trip from Gladstone to South End. The barge will operate at the following times;

Friday – Departs Gladstone @ 08:00 and 17:30

Saturday – Departs Gladstone @ 07:30 & 08:00

Saturday – Departs South End @ 15:00 & 15:30

Sunday – Departs South End @ 09:00 & 15:30

How do I enter?

Online entries open Saturday, 6th May via this website and a Facebook link on Gladstone Road Runners home page.
Entry is only online prior to the event.  Registrations close midnight Sunday, May 28 or when sold out.  Note:  You must complete the online entry form before midnight Sunday, May 28.

Can I enter more then one person on the online entry form?

Yes, online entries will accept multiple entries. Simply fill in the required data for each person and select the relevant options for race entry, transfers and lunch as required. Every attendee must be registered.

How do I collect my race pack?

Race day information and event numbering will take place on the day prior to boarding the barge and also at 09:45 during the race briefing. 

Can my child enter the 6K event?

Due to the nature of the course/s, all children 12 & under will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Where can I put my belongings while I’m participating in the event?

The race precinct at Capricorn Lodge will have a storage area available for you to store your equipment whilst you are running. Any items will be stored at your own risk. Please do not place valuable items in your bag.

Is there a time limit for finishing the 21*K event?

Yes, in fairness to all volunteers we are enforcing on course cut off times as follows:

8K @ Bluff - competitors have one hour to reach this point, if outside this time you will be directed to continue on the 14K course

16K @ Bluff - competitors have two hours to reach this point, if outside this time you will be removed from the event and provided a lift back to the race precinct.
